Do you like fudgesicles?

Tuesday, September 2, 2008
I know I was just complaining about chocolate protein bars in my last post and how I'm tired of chocolate.  But it's a whole new ball game when it's frozen! At least, that's my story.

Everyone over on Obesity Help has been experimenting with making protein ice cream this summer. Basically you make a protein drink, add a few other ingredients and freeze in one of those little ice cream makers. I tried a couple and they were pretty good.

I came up with one that I swear tastes like a fudgesicle. Yummy. I'm going to have to buy a popsicle mold so they'll be easier to eat.  I made it in the ice cream maker and it was good, but I froze the left overs and it became very hard and the texture and taste was like the real deal. It was too hard to eat with a spoon but perfect for freezing on a stick!

So here's what I did...
1/2 regular size packet of sugar free instant chocolate pudding mix
1/2 packet of Labrada melted chocolate ice cream protein powder
2 cups of silk soy milk (or milk of your choice)

Put all ingredients in blender and blend well, almost impossible to do by hand. Pour into home ice cream maker (like the Cuisinart electric ones or Danvier hand crank ones) and churn until frozen. Place into popsicle molds and freeze.

If you want to experiement with sleeve gastrectomy friendly ice creams, adding the pudding mix seems to be a key ingredient for texture. Also, it's a know factor in cooking that freezing things lessens the taste. You have to make flavors more pronounced in frozen foods or the taste is lost.  The advantage here is that loosing the flavor of the protein is a good thing! It helps mask the dreaded protein taste that many vsg and other wls people hate.

That does sound good. Thank you, also, for the reward you sent me! That was so nice.
