Making fraps without a machine

Thursday, June 26, 2008
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It's been a busy week with my paying job. At least the commute is short, I walk downstairs to my office and I'm there! LOL

I've posted a couple of times about coffee and my love of fraps and expresso. Some of you may want to make a frap but don't know how to make expresso or don't want to invest in a machine. No worries! There are two methods.

The first method doesn't involve any investment at all as long as you have a regular old drip coffeemaker. You put double the coffee in that you usually would and make coffee. Then you put the coffee in the water holder and run it through again. Ta da! Just be sure to run plain water through afterwards to clean it out. This makes a strong brew like you need for your frap to taste like coffee instead of just milk.

The second method is to buy a stove top expresso maker. This is how I learned to make epresso while living in Miami, it's the traditional Cuban method. I've put one in the Amazon box in the sidebar so you can click on it and see what one is. They're inexpensive, around $14. To use it you put water in the bottom part up to the fill line, put the little basket in and fill it with expresso ground coffee, screw the top portion on and put it on the stove. Simple, huh? I used to love to open the top and watch the coffee pouring out of the little tube. But then I'm easily amused.

Now go try it! The cost of two trips to Starbucks would cover the cost of a stove top unit!
